BAPTISM AT BRIARLAKE
Baptism means to be immersed in water. It is a physical act of obedience by which you identify yourself with Jesus' death, burial and resurrection; it symbolizes the death of your old self and resurrection to a new life in Christ; and it publicly declares your faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
Believer’s baptism in water is a beautiful and powerful symbol that allows you to express your faith in Jesus Christ publicly. Jesus was baptized in water and He commanded his disciples to baptize others as well.
Baptism is practiced most closely to the biblical way when it is experienced by believers who understand their faith commitment to Jesus Christ. Therefore, we believe that baptism is most meaningful when the one being baptized is old enough to have repented from his sins and understands his need to place his faith in Jesus Christ as his personal savior.
Our belief is that salvation, a personal faith experience with Christ, should precede believer’s baptism. While faith in Christ may arise and develop at different ages in different people, we don’t baptize anyone under the age of seven because we want everyone who is baptized to be able to remember their baptism experience.
Baptism symbolizes the washing away of our sins; one’s identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead; and one’s willingness to die to his old way of life and to walk in a new way of life.
